Community Support & Scholarship

Labrador Fishermen’s Union Shrimp Company Ltd. has a long-standing commitment to the communities in which we operate.

As we have expanded over the years, we are able to offer more donations, sponsorships, and grow our annual scholarship program.

MV Thor Trawl Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Labrador Fishermen’s Union Shrimp Company LTD. in memory of crew members Jonathon Barney, Raymond Bartlett, Stephen Fowler, Perry Letto, Leroy Poole, and Allister Fowler who died following a tragic plane crash in 1990.

Two scholarships, valued at $3,000 each, will be awarded to students entering their first year of study at Memorial University of Newfoundland who are from Coastal Labrador, from Red Bay to Cartwright.

The recipients must meet the minimum academic requirements for a scholarship as defined by the University — a 75% average compiled from the final grades received in secondary school courses required for University admission.

The scholarship will be awarded by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Bursaries, and Awards.

Math & Science Scholarships

With a special focus on education, LFUSCL introduced two new scholarships in 2011 valued at $250 each.

These scholarships are awarded to students of the Labrador Straits Academy and aim to inspire students who have an interest in math and science. One scholarship is awarded for academic achievement in math and the other for achievement in science.

Congratulations to the 2023 Recipient: Priyanshu Gunput
