M.V. Osprey Ltd.
M.V. Osprey Ltd. was founded in 1986 with the launch of the M/V Northern Osprey, which fished shrimp and groundfish in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. In 1992, a new trawler bearing the same name replaced the original vessel. Four years later, the M/V Northern Eagle entered service as a dedicated shrimp trawler, equipped with onboard facilities to catch, process, package, and freeze shrimp for market.
In 2017, the M/V Northern Eagle was retired and replaced by the M/V Northern Osprey III, built at the Tersan Shipyard in Turkey. Today, all landings are made at the company’s home port in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, and the majority of shrimp is exported through the Labrador Shrimp Company / MV Osprey’s own marketing division to China, Japan and Europe.
Fishing Areas
The fishery takes place off the coast of eastern Canada in the North Atlantic.
Individual fishing areas vary considerably in their contribution to the commercial fishery. SFAs 2, 4 and 5 are the principal fishing grounds for the M/V Northern Osprey III (areas in green).
